Privacy Notice

By accessing and utilising Chow Town by Nedbank you hereby agree to be bound by this privacy notice which must be read with Nedbank’s privacy policy found on Nedbank’s website (www.nedbank.co.za).

Your privacy is very important to Nedbank and we will use all reasonable efforts in order to ensure that any information, including personal information provided by you, or which is collected from you or from third parties is processed, transferred and stored in a secure manner.

This notice also sets out your rights and how you may protect them.

What personal information do We collect and how?

Personal information is data that can be used to uniquely identify you. This information includes (but is not limited to) names, ages, identity numbers, registration numbers, addresses and other contact details. When needed we may also collect biometric information and other relevant information as may be required from time to time.

We collect your personal information in the following ways:

  • directly from you when you sign up to, access and use Chow Town by Nedbank;
  • indirectly from you when you interact with us electronically. When you are using Chow Town by Nedbank, we may collect information from you, such as your internet address and server logs; and
  • directly from other sources, such as public databases, data aggregators and third parties or indirectly through your interactions with third parties.
How do We use your information?

We may, with your permission if required, use personal and biometric information we collected in several ways, for example:

  • to identify you;
  • to detect and prevent fraud and crime;
  • to detect and prevent money laundering;
  • for statistical analysis;
  • to meet our obligations under an agreement with you; and
  • to comply with legislative requirements.

We will not sell your information to third parties and will only market to you in accordance with our legal obligations and your marketing preference, using the communication method you chose.

We may communicate with you by post, phone, SMS, email and other electronic media, including our ATMs, mobile applications or online banking services, about products that may be of interest to you. You may ask us to stop or start sending you marketing messages by informing us in writing or through our branch network, call centres or website.

It is your right to refuse to provide personal information, but you must keep in mind that this refusal may limit our ability to provide the required services to you. It is important to note that Nedbank will only collect information from you that is necessary and relevant to the service or product to be provided.

No information will be collected without your prior consent or as prescribed by law. We will not use information collected about you for marketing purposes you have not consented to.

We will ensure that all third-party data providers have obtained the required consent to share the information with Nedbank.

 

To whom will We disclose your information?

Protecting Nedbank’s interests may sometimes require the disclosure of specific client information to third parties and when sharing your information with recipients in other jurisdictions, we will ensure that they adhere to similar privacy protection requirements as we do – either by law or by legal agreement.

Your data protection rights

You have the right to request Nedbank to confirm whether we hold any information about yourself. You may also request a record from on pertaining to the personal information we hold about you, as well as information about all third parties who hold this information. Once the requested information has been provided to you, you may request Nedbank to –

  • correct or delete the personal information in its possession or under its control if that information is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or has been obtained unlawfully; and
  • destroy or delete a record of your personal information that Nedbank is no longer authorised to retain in terms of the Act.
Complaints

You can submit complaints about the processing of your personal information by phoning the Nedbank Contact Centre on 0800 555 111 or sending an email to privacy@nedbank.co.za.

Or, if you are not satisfied with the way we have dealt with your complaint, you can contact the Information Regulator by completing the prescribed POPIA form 5 and emailing it to POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za. Security

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. To prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.

Retention

We will retain your information only for as long as we need it, given the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law and any other statutory obligations (including anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism requirements). Your information may be retained for varying periods from the end of our relationship, depending on regulatory requirements. We will take all reasonable steps to destroy or deidentify the personal information that we hold when it is no longer required.

Cookies

We make use of cookies to personalise your repeat visits to Chow Town by Nedbank by determining how you use the site. Cookies are very small text files that may be stored on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website, enable images or click on a link in an email.
